Internext and AVN Expo, Vegas '06. 2 shows at the same time... Here's why.

In January 2006, the Internext and AEE (AVN Expo) trade shows will both be located at the Sands Expo (Venetian) and run through (almost) the same dates.

Internext will run January 5-7.
AEE will run January 5-8.

The two shows will be held in separate halls that are very near to each other.

Feedback about these shows over the years, and specifically from last year?s show has varied considerably. Some people have pushed for the shows to be combined entirely into one, while others have expressed a preference to keep them as separate as possible. The one common interest, however, is in finding a way to bring Internext Exhibitors and Attendees more business opportunites.

Traditional adult brick and mortar businesses still clearly present a huge opportunity for expansion of the online/ new technology adult marketplace. The reality is that a large number of these businesses still don?t fully understand our marketplace and do not take full advantage of it. Many people in these businesses haven?t attended Internext in the past because it wasn?t convenient for them to do so and was a little overwhelming. Many of these businesses are not at all familiar with (for example) who the best hosting companies are and how to define that, how to best monetize traffic, how to take their content into the mobile marketplace? and so on.

Internext has been placed next to AEE (they all have to pass the Internext show to get to AEE) in order to encourage the growth of opportunities in both marketplaces. AEE show materials will include information and pointers about Internext and online/ new tech opportunities. There will also be a stronger push toward new technology in the AEE seminar program.

Exhibitors at each will have access to both shows, in order to encourage and facilitate business discussions. There will be special deals on badges to attend both shows.

For those few companies who have previously exhibited at both shows (and now face a logistical challenge) I encourage you to pick one show over the other for your exhibit, if you can. This isn?t about forcing people to rent and staff two booths. It will be challenging? I agree.

The venue will be crowded, as will the hotel. I encourage all concerned about that to book rooms early through Rose Tours (or anyone else with special rates).

Yes, the event will be really, really busy? Mayhem possibly!
(?but it might just create a few more business opportunities for those who attend.)

Let the ranting begin...! >>>>>>

Exhibitors will get their usual free passes, which will include both shows.

Attendees can get something called a 'SuperPass' (or words to that effect) if they want, which will be a discounted pass for both shows; or they can opt to just attend one show. The price for that hasn't been decided yet, but it won't be that much.

Combining the two shows together is a foolish decision for many reasons .

I end off with too close for comfort

Once again thanks for notice Aly

Also does it means that we gonna have regular customers in our Internext booth?

This I'm really not sure it's a good idea...

Horrible idea to combine the two shows. This really sucks. I would rather be able to attend both shows seperately and utilize the networking and business opportunities they represent and give the show floor and parties and other activities from both conventions my full time and attention. I don't want to run back and forth between two shows and have to decide what's most important to me every day. I always attend both shows and I often share booth space at one show or both as part of my distributors booth. Combining these shows means less time for me to do business and network, less time have meetings and less time to enjoy my time in Vegas.

Umm does this mean that the mobs of non industry people who attend AVN will be able to get into Internext?

If that is the case will there be "industry hours" each day?

Does this mean all the free shit I normally get will now go to some normal people?
Wait will we end up with 9000 new newbies?

I also agree with you since I was barely getting enough time with both shows one after the other one to do all the biz possible there....

AVN is the .XXX of our business

Now they want to ghettoize us into being with video porners-
So the next time Rob Black gets in trouble, or Max Hardcore gets indicted for something we'll be grouped in with them.

This seems fair to me-LOL
Funny thing is if the shoe were on the other foot, and video companies got grouped with us at Internext- would any video companies be scared that they can be in trouble for sending spam?

Of course not-
AVN wants to cover the entire industry with a PORN umbrella the way I see it, which is totally not the way to go-
For starters-Internext is a community of webmasters
AEE is a community of porn video companies and looky loos' who feed off the exploitation of women ( pornstars) to me they are the blue collar side of this industry-

Webmasters exploit surfers- not women. If anything, AVN should do a consumer web show where the end users are all surfers with Gold Credit cards that can sign up at any booth in Vegas to see whatever sites they wish to see.

Instead what you will be seeing are 5,000 guys with CES badges coming to scope out porn stars and not doing any business-

Aren't we as an industry out to better ourselves and make more money by ingratiating ourselves with more online adult companies? Why do we need to be side by side of porn video companies?

How many of these porn companies need a web presence?
I know many people who sell these adult companies' content to webmasters already.

Do they really think we are stupid enough to believe that a Red Light District Video or Anabolic needs to talk to us about more traffic to their websites?

It's absurd, it's bullshit, and I know even Aly smells something fishy about it.

Don't be a bunch of sheep- AVN is lying to you once again.

NO. Consumers can buy their inexpensive pass to AEE, but not to Internext. To get into Internext they'd have to pay the regular fee of around $200, and invent a corporate identity for registration. They'll be strongly discouraged from getting in to Internext because (I agree) they wouldn't be good for the show.

I love Aly. However, I am not pleased with AVN's decision.

Decent spin, I hope for AVN's sake that they are right and it is a better decision. If it's a clusterfuck at the hotel, if AVN pisses off it's exhibitors and attendees, it really just creates more opportunity for the other smaller venues throughout the year. (fingers crossed)

Cheers,

Brad

...Which would be okay, because then we'd also have more opportunities to dip into that chocolate fondue fountain in Phoenix...!

But hey, maybe, just maybe you'll bump into (literally most likely) a few new people looking for hosting and an alternative billing solution...?

...It could happen. Just remember to bring an extra bottle of Advil this time.

Not me- I'll be in a friends condo kickin' it.
I have learned my lesson.

I only go to tradeshows when I don't have to pay for them-
And even then , I wouldn't want to gouge my customers and have them pay AVN's prices.

They couldn't afford to have me around for too long after shelling out that kind of money-

That's why I always say I am the best alternative to buying an ad in AVN magazine- for one, I see and talk to more peopl ethan they reach in a month-
and I get a lot of results for my clients

When is the last time someone did a huge deal with you and said they found you in AVN Magazine?

hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm

wow, i have a feeling the seperation for both shows on the consumer end won't happen easily...porn comsumers are smart, and once they find out there is a way to get into the business side of thing, they will stop at nothing to make it happen

i have been unhappy with AVN's way of doing things the past few months...but I can honestly say with 100% confidence, that AVN is going to fuck up our industry if they keep heading in the course they are.....terrible decisions are being made and not one large advertiser/sponsor is doing a thing about it, they just keep paying avn and keep flocking to their "conventions"

while I think it would be nice to see all the internext people while I am cruising AVN, i think it is fucking idiotic to do the two shows right next door...at least give some space between them and make it seem like you aren't trying to let consumers in

here is a piece of advice for those attending avnternext 2006 though....make your booth consumer friendly, cause you will be seeing more retail shoppers than ever before...in fact I would not be suprised if retail shoppers/consumers out weigh the industry folks at the end of the day

I think about 7 days from now when we are all "debriefing" from Miami, we will all have a better idea if AVN's great new ideas are great and or new.

I like the idea. Means I can get business from both sides since I serve everyone but the surfer. Thanks Aly. I'll have a surprise gift for you at my booth.

I'm not a part of Internext, won't be attending it either. But here's where things will get fucked up for the parties.

In the old days, a company promoting their party handed out passes to most of the webmasters that stop by their booth. Assuming it's all industry, you can give it to as many people as you can and hope to get 1000 to 2000 people to fill up your venue.

Now you're gonna see a ton of surfers mixed into the show floor. How do you know who to hand out passes to? You will offend lot's of smaller webmasters because now you have to screen each person and make sure they're all legit first. Extra time dealing with screening people, lot's of wasting time in my opinion.

Invite only parties will be the "in" thing and most of the industry won't be able to attend one legit webmaster party without having surfers to walk through.

Looking to throw a party? Food for thought.

Attendees can get something called a 'SuperPass' (or words to that effect) if they want, which will be a discounted pass for both shows; or they can opt to just attend one show. The price for that hasn't been decided yet, but it won't be that much.
What sort of passes are available for talent?

If the Industry segment depended on itself this wouldnt happen.

But since the Adult Internet Industry is more or less gimped and a colossal bunch of lazy dumb asses...

Suck the AVN cock and enjoy it.
Quit whinning.

I do not like AVN anymore than some of you, and I do not like the Adult Net as it stands. Its the mottliest bunch of retards I have ever seen in my life.

I been here 12 years and just now realising the facts that the Adult Net is a waste land of idiots. You people really deserve this shit maybe worse.

I hesitate to pass judgment as I am sort of leaning toward what JoesTraffic says. I have never gotten near the AEE show, but maybe there are some business opportunities that I have missed because I got out of town before the show began.

Of course, like everyone else who has posted, I am concerned about "mingling with the surfers." However, I do think Aly is right that the price tag of Internext will probably keep most of the CES guys over in the AEE show.

Aly, I think AVN is definitely getting their money's worth from you in the challenges they are throwing your direction. Good luck-I think you're doing a great job!

Matt
