Content or traffic, which is King?

Depends it's down to what you're good at, but here's an observation.

Up until a week ago we were converting at around 1:500.

We were adding new content every day, 2 sets and a video, all the new content appeared in the tour.

First page and the updates page.

But as the reserve was shrinking last Friday we changed the system. We moved it so we could determine what sets the surfer sees as being put up new. We organised 20 days or revolving content, 6 sets showing 14 hidden, the content we chose was the top sets on the site.

We have a star rating system we use is what members vote as being their choice of best sets, 1 star to 5 stars all the sets on the tour are 5 stars.

So what has happened to conversions? Now it's 1:427 for the last week. Have conversions increased by 15% over the last week or are more surfers biting the bait?

Neither - presentation is the new king...

Content is everywhere, easily accessible

Traffic is a lot like ordering an escort - you never know if it's someone who's gonna give you your money's worth or some crackwhore who thinks stretchmarks are sexy...

It's all in *how* you present your content to your traffic, I say.

Your content isn't going to make you anything unless you have traffic to send to it... to an extent exclusive content will draw in affiliates... but still , you still need a lot of traffic... i would rather have a lot of traffic, then a lot of good content.. just put it that way

FYI i rather 1 night with angelina jolie then both traffic+content combined.

I don't think that a 15% change, especially over one week, is any reason to spark the content/traffic debate.

Or do you think the surfer is stupid enough to forget that the sofe, girls and knickers are every where on the site. Assuming he even realises this?

I very largely agree with you.

You can take the best content, put it in a cookie cutter tour, send massive traffic at it and do little with it.

Those tours that think outside the box are getting the surfers attention and interests.

Content and traffic are everywhere, but not a level playing field. for instance point me to other content providers selling teen content of our level and style.

Same would go for traffic, bought 100,000 hits of a traffic guy and got one sign up. Chameleon submitter and Ask Jolene do around 1:1100.

Why not just put up a cookie cutter site and 3 other different designes INCLUDING what you have up now ... rotate through them EVENLY for a week, 2 weeks, a month - whatever ... and monitor the difference, Paul -

Very true they both need each other and a good design helps. But all I did was change the pictures and saw an improvement. AAlso took off the "Exclusive" tag from most of the images.

Please explain how you get the traffic in the first place and then how long you will send it to a site that does not convert?

There are many multi millionaires who built themselves on making sure the traffic converted. Because they knew the traffic would not keep coming if it did not earn money.

Some sites offer $100 for a $30 sign up, some offer $30 for a $3 sign up. Ho do they make over 5 times the initial spend without making the member spend a lot more? Even if it's upsells, they have to upsell EVERYONE 5 or more times just to cover the payout.

Always worried me how they do this, without shaving how do you think they can?

Done that and this tour works the best.

Not a scientific as you put, just progressing as we reach the ultimate tour.

The first one sucked donkey bollocks.

Ok, now try 1 day $1 trials with limited access and an EZ upgrade feature for immediate FULL ACCESS that auto recur after 1 day if they don't cancel.

Also, test pricing at $34.95

it's all a numbers game ... if you have the traffic now to support testing - TEST TEST TEST and watch the numbers!

Just thought a little harder about this.

Who can get the best/most traffic on a long term basis?

The guy with a site converting at 1:5,000 and keeping them 1.25 months.

The guy with a site converting at 1:2,000 and keeping them 1.75 months.

The guy with a site converting at 1:1,000 and keeping them 2 months. Then upselling them to another of his sites?

Who has the most traffic?

Eva and I have some very important meetings in LA next week. This could determine the future of the paysite and even the future of our company.

But you are right, the tweaking never stops.

So true and only a fool thinks its one or the other. Exclusive content attracts the serious and knowledgable affiliate. Surfers might care to an extent, but I think affiliates are as much responsible for the insistance of exclusive content as the surfer is. What make a tgp interesting? Exclusive content. Serious affiliates want new faces, galleries and promo matierials to make their site new and fresh to attract more surfers.

This is such a stupid arguement and yet another waste of a thread. People that dont know this have no business in this industry anyways.

Paul.....Marketing 101 Never open a marketing thread or advertisement with a question. Make a statement, show your wares and why you rock, then move on. Starting threads with questions in hopes to attracting buyers will only bring out the people who think youre a fucking moron. Why give people a reason to desagree with you in hopes to sell them? Unreal.

Very true. But $1,000 worth of traffic to sell $900 of product is going to send you bankrupt.

But if you have all this great traffic why not send it to a site that has great content and will make you money?

Why does everyone insist on going the hard route, send it to a site that has cracked the conversion and retention side and make $$$$

Very true. But $1,000 worth of traffic to sell $900 of product is going to send you bankrupt.

But if you have all this great traffic why not send it to a site that has great content and will make you money?

Why does everyone insist on going the hard route, send it to a site that has cracked the conversion and retention side and make $$$$
the question was traffic or content, not about conversions.

You need both obviously, but if you had to pick one, I'd say traffic hands down.

No traffic = no sales, period.
But you can always sell a shitty site, it might not sell well but you can still sell.

Content that matches your traffic is King!

Choosing one over the other is silly since having one is worthless without the other.

Gun or bullets, which is a better weapon?

u need both. content without traffic is pointless.. traffic without any thing to show is also pointless... they both scratch eachothers back.

And, I vote, that after years of reading the same question from Paul....on every single board, over a period of years, that he stop asking.

For surely, after having asked the same question SO many times, he MUST know the answer by now......

LOLOL! yep.. he is the King of asking the questions that have no real answer. Funny thing is, he uses these threads as a marketing tool. haha We all know who the "tool" is.

Either one is worthless without the other Paul...... get it? I mean what was the date the first time you ask this question on here? Ive been her since 2001... and you have been asking it since then.... and im sure before I arrived.

Anyone else think Paul is A.D.D.?

Serious affiliates want new faces, galleries and promo materials to make their site new and fresh to attract more surfers.

This is such a stupid argument and yet another waste of a thread. People that dont know this have no business in this industry anyways.

Paul.....Marketing 101 Never open a marketing thread or advertisement with a question. Make a statement, show your wares and why you rock, then move on. Starting threads with questions in hopes to attracting buyers will only bring out the people who think you're a fucking moron. Why give people a reason to disagree with you in hopes to sell them? Unreal.

:wink wink:
Exclusive never got a single surfers dick hard. Good content properly presented does that. If all you have to offer is the fact it's not on another site you have little.

When you sell as much as I do and make the profits I do then I will listen to your advice on marketing. You actually boasted about a turn over and workload that made me and Eva laugh.

When you can earn in one day what it now takes you 10 days to earn then you will understand what I'm talking about.

15 sets a day at $133 a set = $1,330 less costs. Try shooting two sets that both make over $10,000 in a day and then I will listen to you.
